Swiss Krono: eight countries, ten plants, one network

The 35 year relationship between Swiss Krono and IDS is one of the strongest and most enduring partnerships that we have. Here we detail some of the key modern milestones of this powerhouse of decorative product manufacturing

The company was founded in Menznau, Switzerland in 1966 and has grown today to have 4,500 employees working across 10 plants in Switzerland, France, Germany, Poland, USA, Ukraine, Russia and Hungary specialising in wood-based products, flooring and decorative panels.In 1969 the first raw particleboard was produced

• The company, formerly known as Kronoswiss, rebranded itself worldwide from January 2016 as Swiss Krono.
• Gross sales of the Swiss Krono Group was 1,612 million euros in 2016.
• From 2013 to 2016, the Swiss Krono Group Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) was 4.5%.
• The company invested 80million CHF into its new chipboard manufacturing line in Menznau, Switzerland, operational from September 2017.
• The production of the first board at the new plant on 13th September 2017 was timed to coincide with the birthday of the wife of company founder, Ernst Kaindl.
• Swiss Krono launched its first truly global range of decorative panel products in 2016 titled the One World Collection. The comprehensive collection includes a creative choice of 253 options in total, with a wide selection of designs and surface textures in metallics, abstracts, concretes and plain colours, in addition to woodgrains.
• All Swiss Krono décors are available as a melamine or a laminate, including all registered embossed décors, with matching ABS edging as standard. They can all be combined with a variety of different substrates including chipboard, MDF of all types (including both fire and water resistant) and compact density fibreboard (CDF).
• In the UK, the company has a 35-year distribution partnership with International Decorative Surfaces (IDS) who, with thirteen branches nationwide, provide extensive stockholding and rapid product availability to meet the On Time in Full needs of furniture manufacturers.
• Following the launch of One World, IDS initially decided to stock a selection of around 40 popular-selling One World panel décors for delivery to a customer’s door in just 24-48 hours.
• In 2017, IDS took the significant step of increasing the offering and holding 146 of the 253 décors for immediate ex-stock delivery from any of its 13 branches nationwide. Every other decorative panel décor in the collection is available in the UK exclusively through IDS within five working days, with no minimum order quantity.
