Decarbonisation

Our sustainability ambitions are multi-faceted and inform our every action – central to this is our decarbonisation efforts.

Decarbonisation is the process of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with our business operations.

We want to play our part as a business to mitigate climate change, so we have put a number of strategies and actions in place to help achieve this.

Electrification and Energy

Our Head Office building in Stoke-on-Trent meets Group ‘Care 4’ sustainability standards, including the installation of photo-voltaic solar panels to reduce energy consumption, while all IDSurfaces depots feature EV charging points for visitors and colleagues.

Transport Fleet: Emissions Reduction

As a distributor, we’re always on the move, getting our products to customers on time and in full, every day.

In line with our decarbonisation aspirations, we’re continuously looking at ways to reduce the emissions associated with this.

A £100,000 investment in advanced route planning software has optimised our commercial transport operations, while reducing the carbon footprint of our vehicles on the road through more efficient route planning – without losing any speed or flexibility with our deliveries. Plus, our fleet replacement programme is seeing the rollout of the latest Euro 6 compliant commercial vehicles.

This has all helped to deliver a 25% reduction in our HGV fuel consumption between January 2023 and April 2024.

Our company cars, which connect our sales team to customers across the UK, are a mixture of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles. As of April 2024, 74% of IDSurfaces company cars fall into this category and we aim to eradicate all diesel usage by 2028.

Material Usage and Waste Management

As we source products from all over the world, we take a keen interest in the sustainability credentials of our supply chain.

All our wood-based products are EUTR compliant, and 80% are either FSC® or PEFC™Certified.

We have held Chain of Custody certification since 2005 and offer certified FSC® or PEFC™ options across each of our main product areas, guaranteeing that the timber used is harvested from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources.

By providing products with this certification, we are able to play our part supporting sustainable forest management worldwide.

Our office spaces are also a focus for decarbonisation through material usage. We segregate all waste streams to make recycling easier for our waste contractor partners, as well as baling and recycling cardboard, plastic and timber across our sites, allowing us to re-use unwanted packaging materials and minimise waste.
