MERCHANT TRAINEE PROGRAMME

At IDS we place a high value on working in partnership with our customers and suppliers to provide a service that is second to none.  We recognise that people are an essential part of our business, and our most precious asset.  Without our highly trained and valued people, we would be unable to meet the needs of our customers, and we are always looking for dedicated and committed people to join our growing business.  If you would like to share in our success, you could join our Merchant Trainee Programme which offers a fantastic opportunity to 'fast track' you into a supervisory position.


The IDS Merchant Trainee Programme is a highly practical and participative programme that lasts for two years. As a Young Merchant you will learn all aspects of the business, the products we sell and how to sell them. During this unique development programme, you will combine practical ‘hands on’ structured training and development, with the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications.


What must I demonstrate to be able to get on the programme?
For your application to be successful you must:
  • Have the right attitude
  • Be prepared to work hard
  • Be ambitious
  • Be enthusiastic
  • Be committed to success
  • Display initiative

You should be aged between 16 and 21 years, and have 5 GCSE's at grade C or above, (including Maths and English) to qualify for the scheme. Please note that these posts are exempt from the Age Discrimination Act due to the funding arrangements provided by the government on this particular programme.
